Was the colllapse of Muammar Qaddafi's tyranny brought about by the western world, as a result of the advantages they would aquire from - Essay Example Be that as it may, on a closer investigation of a similar film, and that which lies behind the equivalent, one can begin making a disclosure of an abnormal story that throws a fairly unflattering light on some of the elites in both American and British (Western world) foundations. Over these four decades rule, various people from the Western world got stirred up, in one way or the other, with Gaddafi and his type of authority. There are the individuals who were exclusively in quest for his cash and as along these lines complimented, yet in addition sneaked to him since they were seeking after companionship with him. Then again, there are those (and this shaped the bigger gathering) who considered him to be their foe. The latte even went above and beyond to profits their assets in transforming Gaddafi into arrange of a 2-dimensional animation like overall lowlife (Curtis 1). The individuals who had taken dynamic jobs in guaranteeing that Gaddafi's authority disintegrates were not excl usively government officials, yet additionally included covert agents and columnists from such organizations as M16 and CIA, advertising (PR) firms, individuals from Washington think tanks, philanthropic mediation savants, pioneers of the IRA, scholastics and opulent left wing progressives. Every one of these gatherings had shifted points and this made them utilize this African head in various manners. Presentation Majority of the cases from the Western world have really painted Muammar Gaddafi to be among the shrewd people to have at any point existed. Despite what might be expected be that as it may, and in my view, Gaddafi probably won't have been such abhorrent. History has it that having been sooner or later a poor wanderer, Gaddafi ascended firmly to oust a distinctively horrendous pedophilic ruler. Moreover, he fought for the privileges of the poor just as ladies in the Libyan culture. In a worldwide view, Muammar was on the front line in battling for the privileges of the African mainland against Western Imperialism (Roberts 1). It is even doubtful that were it not for the Western promulgation machine-normally known as the media-the achievements this African persona had made would have earned himself incredible prize including the Nobel Peace Prize, therefore situating him among the best chiefs of the universe of the century that has just had its sun setting. It is just that the media could scarcely discussion of the beneficial things that Gaddafi had done, such as being the absolute first head of state in the African landmass to create the absolute first evident contemporary popular government as differentiated to a dominant part of the phony majority rules system portrayals in numerous different nations. In contrast to the cited majority rule government in countries, where just those with political state and the banks have the force and not the individuals, the Libyans genuinely had the force offered to them. Muammar's Libya had a majority rule government better than the greater part of the nations on the planet and this was irritating to practically all the Western countries which could scarcely bear the idea of an underdeveloped nation having unrivaled political framework than that of their own. In the event that tyranny was anything to pass by,

White Collar Crime And Organized Crime - 1805 Words

Introduction: This paper explores white collar crime and elaborates on the types of organized crimes through the analysis of case studies. Furthermore, I will also discuss the differences and similarities between professional crime and organized crime. White collar crime is the use of deceptive acts to solely benefit oneself, often leaving many victimized. Within this paper, I explain which theories best clarify why individuals partake in these criminal behaviors, and preventative methods. In addition, I will state my opinion on the severity of white collar crime and organized crime. Description: According to Sutherland, the definition of white collar crime is â€Å"violations of the law committed by a person of high social status within the course of their otherwise respectable occupation, business, or profession†. Within this definition Sutherland places a significant amount of emphasis on a few key words. The first key word is of high social status, which excludes those individuals who are of middle class and lower echelons. Secondly, the deception must occur within the business setting. White collar crime has a damaging impact on the social morale because it causes individuals to lose trust in financial institutions, which sends negative images to the middle and lower class. The Metamorphosis of Sydney Carton - 1458 Words

Sydney Carton, â€Å"one of Dickens’s most loved and best-remembered characters† (Stout 29), is not just another two-dimensional character; he seems to fly off the pages and into real life throughout all the trials and tribulations he experiences. He touches many hearts, and he even saves the life of Charles Darnay, a man who looks surprisingly similar to him. In Dickens’s A Tale of Two Cities, Sydney Carton is a selfish man of habit, a cynic, a self-loathing drunk, and an incorrigible barrister until he meets Lucie Manette; throughout the novel Sydney is overcome by his noble love for Lucie and transforms from a cynic to a hero as he accomplishes one of the most selfless acts a man can carry out. The elusive Sydney Carton is depicted as a†¦show more content†¦Carton is â€Å"the jackal† to Stryver’s lion. According to Darwin, a jackal is â€Å"an animal not destined by nature to exist, and carrying with it the provisions for deathâ₠¬ (Petch 28). Sydney accepts that he will never rise from his position as â€Å"the jackal†. He assumes he has no more chance of standing up to Stryver than a â€Å"real jackal may† have â€Å"of rising to be a lion† (Dickens 203). Sydney’s position as a lawyer persuades his feelings of service. He fully shows the â€Å"ideology of service† as he gives his life to the service of his clients. To serve others, a person must have a sense of self-sacrifice; therefore, his profession as a lawyer â€Å"supplies a professional context for Carton’s self-sacrifice† (Petch 38). If not for Sydney’s profession and his self-sacrificial sense of duty, the end of the novel may have been extremely different. While Sydney struggles with his drinking and depression, he finds comfort in one person: Lucie Manette. At night, as he is stumbling drunkenly down the streets, he unconsciously winds up in front of the Manette household (Dickens 144). Why does he do this? He does this because he is in love with Miss Lucie Manette. As much as he wants to act on his feelings for her, he feels as if he is not honorable, and he believes he would bring her down with him. She asks him if he is a adult male, tells him that he will be # 8220 ; so much more a adult male # 8221 ; after slaying Duncan. She gives Macbeth an illustration of how resolute and cruel he should be stating him that she # 8211 ; adult female who is supposed to be sort and compassionate # 8211 ; would be able to kill her ain kid: I would, while it [ babe ] was smiling in my face, Have pluck # 8217 ; d my mammilla from his boneless gums, And elan # 8217 ; d the encephalons out, had I so pledged As you have done to this. R / gt ; ( I.vii.61-64 ) Lady Macbeth used the Macbeth # 8217 ; s feelings towards her, his courage, his ambitious nature, his obscure desires as tools to do Macbeth to make what she thinks will convey him success and satisfaction. Enchantresss and Lady Macbeth decidedly tried to coerce Macbeth to kill Duncan and to go on the sequence of awful slayings. However, Macbeth was non a weak-willed marionette that others could easy command. He was a brave and strong adult male who could defy outside influences and do his ain determination. Why did he let his married woman and enchantresss to convert him to make what he thought was incorrect to thing to make? The reply is that he wanted to be convinced. In fact, Macbeth began to believe about going king even before he met the enchantresss. This explains his unusual reaction after he hold heared the enchantresss # 8217 ; prognostications. Banquo noted with surprise: Good sir, why do you get down, and seem to fear Thingss that do sound so just? Macbeth is afraid and feels guilty after he receives great anticipations of going thane of Cawdor and male monarch! The lone account is that enchantresss think his ain ideas and catch him believing about such an evil thing as killing Duncan. Another grounds to back up the thought that Macbeth wanted to slay Duncan is the reaction of Lady Macbeth after she reads Macbeth # 8217 ; s missive. Her ideas instantly jump to slaying, even though slaying was non even mentioned anyplace in the missive. It seems that Macbeth had been care foring the thought of slaying Duncan for a long clip and discussed it with Lady Macbeth many times. In their duologue in I.v neither lady Macbeth nor Macbeth himself mentions the word # 8216 ; slaying # 8217 ; . The lone intimation that Duncan will neer go forth the palace alive is given in the undermentioned lines: Macbeth My dearest love, Duncan comes here to-night. LADY MACBETH And when goes therefore? Macbeth To-morrow, as he purposes. LADY MACBETH O, neer Shall Sun that morrow see! If Macbeth were an guiltless lamb before enchantresss and Lady Macbeth have turned him to a pitiless felon, he wouldn # 8217 ; t understand what Lady Macbeth was speaking about. However, because his dark side had begun to contend with the good side even before the beginning of the drama, he gets immediately what his married woman # 8217 ; s programs are. He still has uncertainties, but he wants to believe that he is fated to be king. He wants to acquire support and advice for slaying Duncan from both enchantresss and Lady Macbeth and gets them. Macbeth needs this push from the external forces to stamp down his scruples and get down perpetrating bloody offenses. After the evil side of Macbeth # 8217 ; s character receives help from the enchantresss and Lady Macbeth it wholly takes over his good side and can now move by itself with no aid from the exterior. Macbeth following slaying after killing Duncan and grooms # 8211 ; slaying of Banquo # 8211 ; is neer advised by the eldritch sisters or supported by his married woman. There is perfectly no ground of slaying Macduff # 8217 ; s household. In decision, even though Lady Macbeth and the enchantresss played an of import function in converting Macbeth to kill Duncan, internal force was the most of import of all three. It was Macbeth who agreed with them, Macbeth who committed the slaying, Macbeth who decided to go on walking along the bloody way. However, it # 8217 ; s really improbable that all the events in the drama would hold happened, if there had non been assist given by the enchantresss and Macbeth # 8217 ; s married woman. The fatal combination of the three combined forces produced the tragic consequence. War is one of the most tragic things in our world Essay Ww2 today. It is even sadder that usually it comes around at least once in our lifetime. In the 20th century alone we have already had two huge wars. These wars were call the World Wars simply because they involved most of the big countries of the world. Many people have died in these wars.. especially the second World War. That is my focus for this essay. The leader of Germany at the time of WW2 and the person who most think started WW2 was a man named Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler was born in Austria. By the time that World War 1 started in 1914, he was living in Germany. He served well in the German Army and for that he earned a medal for bravery. At the end of the war Hitler decided to take up politics. By 1921 he was already the founding leader of the Nazi party. Hitler was an incredibly racist man and he had a great hate for Jews. By 1933, Hitler gained political power by winning the election. Soon after he made himself absolute dictator, calling himself the Fuhrer which means Leader. By the end of the 30s he was already sending Jews off too concentration camps to meet a horrible death. We will write a custom essay on War is one of the most tragic things in our world specifically for you for only $16.38 $13.9/page Order now I believe that Hitler was one of the greatest causes of World War 2. Although there are many other reasons, he was definitely one of them. Another reason was the Treaty of Versailles. This was the treaty that was signed at the end of World War 1. This treaty outlined the rules that Germany must follow because of their defeat by Britain and France. Many Germans were angered by the treaty, for most of the rules in the treaty were unfair and Germany lost a great amount of wealth. One of the cruelest reasons for the war was Hitlers racist hate for Jews. He would send them off in cattle cars to places called concentration camps were they would be slaughtered by the thousands. World War 2 was huge and involved a lot of countries. There were thousands of battlefronts and warsites. The two main battlefronts were the battle front between Britain and Germany and the battlefront between the Japanese and the Americans. These battlefronts were split up into smaller battlefronts even still. Many lives were lost in the air, on land and in the sea. Some of the most notable battles were: The Battle of Britain, The Battle of Midway and The Battle of the Atlantic. Since the US and Canada were at war with the Japanese, Japanese Canadians were treated very poorly. The government had decided that all or most Japanese Canadians, even if they were born in Canada had either go home or go and live in one of the camps. These camps were made to keep all the Japanese Canadians together in one location. But the fact was that these camps were very dirty and not fair treatment. Also, the government took away all Japanese possessions and without the Japanese knowing, they were auctioned off at a fraction of their original value! This treatment went on for all of World War 2 and Japanese Canadians were not treaty fairly for many years after. Just recently the government of Canada has decided to pay compensation for their losses but most agree that it doesnt even come close to what they lost. One of the greatest outcomes of the war was the great world power shift. For more than a century Great Britain had been the wealthiest and most powerful nation in the world. But they used up too many resources in the wars and their status greatly decreased. One person even wrote that it is not Great Britain any more it is just Britain. People all over the world suffered through this war. Hundreds of thousands of people died. All for the sake of their countries. And you know what? No one actually gained anything from it. The fact is that all of the countries (excluding the US) lost much, much more than what they gained. Britain lost their power, France lost lives and land,Germany lost everything andJapan

Scoville Scale Organoleptic Test

Scoville Scale Organoleptic Test The Scoville scale is a measure of how pungent or spicy hot chili peppers and other chemicals are. Here is how the scale is determined and what it means. Origin of the Scoville Scale The Scoville scale is named for American pharmacist Wilbur Scoville, who devised the Scoville Organoleptic Test in 1912 as a measure of the amount of capsaicin in hot peppers. Capsaicin is the chemical responsible for most of the spicy heat of peppers and certain other foods. Scoville Organoleptic Test or Scoville Scale To perform the Scoville Organoleptic Test, an alcohol extract of capsaicin oil from a dried pepper is mixed with a solution of water and sugar to the point where a panel of taste-testers can barely detect the heat of the pepper. The pepper is assigned Scoville units based on how much the oil was diluted with water in order to reach this point. As an example, if a pepper has a Scoville rating of 50,000, that means capsaicin oil from that pepper was diluted 50,000 times before the testers could just barely detect the heat. The higher the Scoville rating, the hotter the pepper. Tasters on the panel taste one sample per session so that the results from one sample dont interfere with subsequent testing. Even so, the test is subjective because it relies on human taste, so it is inherently imprecise. Scoville ratings for peppers also change according to a type of peppers growing conditions (especially humidity and soil), maturity, seed lineage, and other factors. The Scoville rating for a t ype of pepper may vary naturally by a factor of 10 or more. Scoville Scale and Chemicals The hottest hot pepper on the Scoville scale is the Carolina Reaper, with a Scoville rating of 2.2 million Scoville units, followed by the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion pepper, with a Scoville rating of around 1.6 million Scoville units (compared with 16 million Scoville units for pure capsaicin). Other extremely hot and pungent peppers include the Naga Jolokia or Bhut Jolokia and its cultivars, the Ghost chili and Dorset Naga. However, other plants produce spicy hot chemicals which can be measured using the Scoville scale, including piperine from black pepper and gingerol from ginger. The hottest chemical is resiniferatoxin, which comes from a species of resin spurge, a cactus-like plant found in Morocco. Resiniferatoxin has a Scoville rating a thousand times hotter than pure capsaicin from hot peppers, or over 16 billion  Scoville units! ASTA Pungency Units Because the Scoville test is subjective, the American Spice Trade Association (ASTA) uses high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to accurately measure the concentration of spice-producing chemicals. The value is expressed in ASTA Pungency Units, where different chemicals are mathematically weighted according to their capacity to produce a sensation of heat. The conversion for ASTA Pungency Units to Scoville heat units is that ASTA pungency units are multiplied by 15 to give equivalent Scoville units (1 ASTA pungency unit 15 Scoville units). Even though HPLC gives an accurate measurement of the chemical concentration, the conversion to Scoville units is a little off, since converting ASTA Pungency Units to Scoville Units yields a value from 20-50% lower than the value from the original Scoville Organoleptic Test. Scoville Scale for Peppers Scoville heat units Pepper Type 1,500,0002,000,000 Pepper spray, Trinidad Moruga Scorpion 855,0001,463,700 Naga Viper pepper, Infinity chili, Bhut Jolokia chili pepper, Bedfordshire Super Naga, Trinidad Scorpion, Butch T pepper 350,000580,000 Red Savina habanero 100,000350,000 Habanero chili, Scotch bonnet pepper, Peruvian White Habanero, Datil pepper, Rocoto, Madame Jeanette, Jamaican hot pepper, Guyana Wiri Wiri 50,000100,000 Byadgi chili, Birds eye chili (Thai chili), Malagueta pepper, Chiltepin pepper, Piri piri, Pequin pepper 30,00050,000 Guntur chilli, Cayenne pepper, Aj pepper, Tabasco pepper, Cumari pepper, Katara 10,00023,000 Serrano pepper, Peter pepper, Aleppo pepper 3,5008,000 Tabasco sauce, Espelette pepper, Jalapeo pepper, Chipotle pepper, Guajillo pepper, some Anaheim peppers, Hungarian wax pepper 1,0002,500 Some Anaheim peppers, Poblano pepper, Rocotillo pepper, Peppadew 100900 Pimento, Peperoncini, Banana pepper No significant heat Bell pepper, Cubanelle, Aji dulce Tips to Make Hot Peppers Stop Burning Capsaicin isnt water soluble, so drinking cold water wont ease the burn of a hot pepper. Drinking alcohol is even worse because the capsaicin dissolves in it and gets spread around your mouth. The molecule binds to pain receptors, so the trick is to either neutralize alkaline capsaicin  with an acidic food or drink (e.g., soda, citrus) or surround it with a fatty food (e.g., sour cream, cheese).

Relative value securities Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Relative value securities - Essay Example Total operating expenses remain the same, yet total revenues have decreased by a small margin. Another factor to mention is the operating income, which has experienced the same kind of trends. An additional worrying sign is that the fund underperformed the S&P 500 by 2% during the first quarter of 1991. This is in stark contrast to the exemplary performance over the preceding five years. Jupiter Venture was only one of two mutual funds that had outperformed the S&P 500 year on year since 1985. The opportunity to take the Sensormatic offer is an attractive one, but there is no guarantee that Sensormatic would continue to grow at its current pace. Sensormatic is looking to move away from the soft-goods market and turn to hard-goods protection. However, the gross margin of hard-goods EAS systems is only around 30%, which is half of the figure for soft goods. The hard goods market is extremely competitive, and there is no guarantee that Sensormatic would come out on top. Win Smith should close Jupiter Venture and get out while he still can. Although the short-term prospects do not look good for Jupiter Venture, there is no reason to suggest that the company’s long-term viability is under threat. While the income statement and comparative financial data show that the company is stagnating, so are many of its nearest competitors. The boom of the mid to late 1980s is over, and Jupiter Venture needs to reinvent itself to prepare to expand going into the 1990s and beyond. The company’s balance sheet shows an encouraging sign—total liabilities only make up about 15% of the company’s total assets (total liabilities of $12.2 million compared to total assets of $83 million). Jupiter Venture’s total long-term debt is only around half of this figure. This figures show that while the company may take a hit in the short-term, the foundations of the company are strong because it does not rely on debt to finance its operations. Looking at the comparative

Website Design Report

Website Design Report Ace Fancy Dress Website Design Report My website is called Ace fancy Dress. The specific purpose of ace fancy dress website is about selling products all over the UK and also to provide rental costumes. Also, the purpose of the website is to be eye-catching, colourful, recognisable, and simple and to display the high quality products. It will show the customers the new exclusive products. The business itself runs completely online. By not having a physical store where customers can come in and view the products we make huge savings and we pass these savings straight onto the customer ensuring very low prices. Also to provide high quality products for the both gender and delivered the products they have bought on time. The website should also advertise the business branches and their occasional special offers. The target audience for the website The ace fancy dress can be aimed at all ages and genders with a variety of costumes available in all sizes. The target audience for the website will largely be aimed at the teenagers 13-19 of all genders as they are the target audience that I think would be more attracted to than the adult or a young person would. Also, the online transactions page will be nicely structured layout on the website which will look more amazing and it will be very easy for the customers to make transactions on the website. However, there is also a decision of static versus dynamic website. A static website contains web pages with fixed content. Each page is coded in HTML and displays the same information to every visitor. Static websites are the cheapest to develop and host. A dynamic website contains web pages that are generated in the real time. A dynamic website can be more expensive to develop initially however it is much easier to update and much more functional and also new content which could bring people back to the site and helps in the search engine. There is a high chance that the ace fancy dress will be a static website as the cost is generally lower up front then a dynamic website. In order to for the website to meet the client and user needs, I will have to include all the criteria to meet the client needs and user needs. So I will make it easier for the client to access certain parts on the website to meet their needs by adding hyperlinks, pictures titles. However, if I was allowed to enable users to customise my website to their needs then I would allow them to change the layout/change the background etc. of the website in order to suit the client needs. Level of security: I will set a strong password on the website so no one can access the website in editor mode and delete or copy the customers details. For the security reason, I will choose a long password with capital letters and number to make it more secure and hard for the hackers or anyone to crack. Support: Clients often have questions or concerns about the websites. The website will have a support page. In the support page, the customers can talk to us through the chat or can call us right away. If customers give us a call we will be more than happy to pick up the phone and deal with any enquiries they have whether it be sale enquiries, pricing problems or simple to ask for an advice on a costume. However, the website will also have an email so customers can email us with any questions. By doing this the website will increase customers satisfaction by providing better service. Costs: Every website needs to be hosted on a web server. I dont have to pay anything for it as there are free options available via Google. However, every website needs a domain name. So the website is likely to have a domain name as this is that needs to be typed into the address bar to gain access to the site. For the website, I will go for the cheapest option .co.uk which is  £3 a year or I can go for the more popular .com domain costs as much as  £10 a year. http://webdesign.expertmarket.co.uk/how-much-does-website-costc Visibility on search engines: There are actually dozens of search engines but the most frequently used one is Google, Yahoo and Bing. I will make sure the website easily comes on the search engines. It is important for the customers that they can find us on google quickly when they type ace fancy dress. The website will be registering on Google my business which can help to appear the website in relevant search results. Also, the website will have content that matches the keywords on the website and have bolded keywords that match the products descriptions/theme on the page. Complexity of site: The website would be very easy and simple to use with the tabs that link to each section and products and hyperlinks test that will take the customers to the sections and products making it easy to move around on my website and findings the information searched. Civil War 9 Essays -- essays research papers

Many developments in social life and the constitution amounted to a revolution between 1860 and 1877. Some of the major events that took place during this time period were the secession of the southern states, Civil War, Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth amendment, and reconstruction. In 1860, South Carolina declared their causes of secession. South Carolina was the first state to secede, and their main reason was that their powers were restrained by the federal government. They felt they were not sovereign, and therefore needed to secede. In the 1860’s, the nation continued to struggle to become united. Congress introduced the new banking and currency systems. Senator John Sherman commended this because he was a strong believer in national unity. He believed that everything should be nationalized because putting state authority above national authority would be "the main instrument by which our government is sought to be overthrown." The blacks at this time were persistently struggling for their civil rights. They declared that they should have the privilege of voting because they fought in the war to preserve the union. In a petition, American citizens of African descent stated that " It (the government) can afford to trust him with a vote as safely as it trusted him with a bayonet." At this time they did not have full protection from the courts, nor did the courts receive a black person’s testimony. In 1865, the blacks did not receive homesteads...

Ferguson Police Officer Essay

Why has the shooting of eighteen year old Michael Brown affected my community? Some say it was a race issue others say it was police brutality. Racism being a very sensitive matter in the community that I live in, all though I do not live in Ferguson City, it is only a twenty minute drive from my front door. It has effected where I live as it brings up civil rights, police use of unlawful and deadly force, and racism issues. The shooting of this young man has rocked our communities, and it is more than likely to get worse before getting better. How can we stop events like this from happening in our communities? The civil rights of several us citizens had been violated in the following ways. We as a people have the right to peaceful protest, freedom of speech, not be profiled, and not be unlawfully detained or restrained. One afternoon in Ferguson Missouri all of these rights got broken and started a horrible civil rights protest. Several Ferguson by police officers and other local  law officials have been accused in recent lawsuits by citizen about civil rights violations. Some of these allegations include killing a mentally ill man with a Taser, hitting a child with a pistol. Choking and hog tying a child. Beating a man and charging him with property damage because his blood splatter on the officer’s clothes. A Mother (Tracey White) and her son was arrested for practicing her rights to freedom of speech while waiting for a ride home after peacefully protesting. When is it alright for an officer to use deadly force? Use of deadly force is acceptable if the suspect is a threat to the officer or the general public safety. The Ferguson police reported that Mr. Brown got fired on during a struggle with the officer. Dorian Johnson, the friend that was with Michael. Stated that the officer opened fire when the young men refused to move from the middle of the street. Police and protestors both agree that Mr. Brown was unarmed. Now with both parties agreeing that the young Mr. Brown had no weapon there was no threat that requires the use of deadly force. â€Å"In the quest to understand the racial dynamics of police brutality, we are well overdue for a new visual beyond Rodney King getting,† (Shedd, Jan). Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson (officer that fired the shots that killed Michael Brown) told authorities Brown reached for the gun during a struggle. Officer Wilson’s account of the instance did not explain why he shot at Michael multiple times after emerging from his vehicle. Which now brings me to the racism side of the situation. If this was not race oriented. Then why this unarmed young black male was shot six times two of which were in the head. His body was allowed to lie in the center of Canfield Drive for over four hours. These have caused many different events to expire, and there has been looting of business like the market, tire and rim shop, and the salon. Businesses to be burned to the ground like the quick-trip after it got looted. The peaceful protest went on for the first week ended with a standoff between protesters and police. The police formed a line and engaged the protestors with tear gas. After long nights of back and forth daybreak would arrive, and things would mellow out slightly. First days of school in Ferguson had been postponed due to the facility did not feel it was safe to have children in the schools the first couple day.  Ã¢â‚¬Å"Racism is manifested or reflected in a multiplicity of ways, including: the teaching of basically Eurocentric curriculum; the paucity of research and courses on racism; the absence of an anti-racist pedagogy; incident of racial harassment and overt racism; the lack of resources allocated to implement effectively and anti-racism policies and practices; the power relations between white majority and minority faculty and staff; the polarization between white students and students of color, and the resistance to social change processes designed to eliminate racism. Despite the fact that racism is a pervasive and systemic force† (Frances & Tator, 1999). Two and a half months have gone by since Michael Brown was gunned down in the streets of Ferguson Missouri by police officer Darren Wilson. The social and political movements that were started by young Michael browns death are still raging on. People from Ferguson and from across the nation came together for a â€Å"weekend of resistance†. Those who attended took part in marches, rallies, and demonstration for several days. All leading up to a massive rally on Saturday October, 12 2014. There were reports of over Three thousand people in attendance for the march on Saturday being called â€Å"justice for all.† It was a diverse crowd of supporters in the streets of St. Louis Missouri. Protestors are demanding justice for Brown and other black men who have been slain by police officers. A lot of the protests have intensified because of the way that the police have responded. The events that have occurred could have been avoided. We as citizens need to understand that these kinds of issues happen everywhere. Issues of this sort do not just appear out of thin air. If we were more involved in our communities and the voting of our government officials, we would be heard sooner. Members of our society need to stand up for our rights, communities elect strong leaders ones that listen not just hear our options and make changes in our towns and cities. Together as one we can be heard and put a stop to all the violence and police brutalities. Participation will help us all as United States citizens win our civil rights back. Descarte and Pierce Essay examples - 1350 Words

Descartes and Peirce both believe in belief and doubt. However, Peirce argument and determination to find a solution to overcome doubt is much stronger than Descartes’. Peirce also makes it known that he is aware of belief in which Descartes does not. Their beliefs result from the notion of clear and distinct ideas. Peirce and Descartes are both rationalists who believe that there is an independent truth and they know it when they see it. The problem that exists is that Descartes and Peirce realize that their senses and ideas could lead to rejection and doubt. The difference between Peirce and Descartes argument is that Peirce argues that to understand the effects of something is to understand what it is. Peirce uses the example of objects†¦show more content†¦Empirical investigation is to be tested along with a belief and presented (21-22). He explains that this method proves that in reality we can have reasoning of how things really are according to perception. I th ink that Descartes would say that he agrees with Peirce to a certain extent. Peirce seems more determined to fight for belief than Descartes. However, I think that Descartes would argue that he is encouraged to avoid skepticism. Descartes defines senses as a part of the process of thinking. He also explains that we can use our senses to help us understand the true nature of things. Descartes struggled with doubt and his senses when he used his ontological proof that God existed. For example, he explains that he is aware that he is not perfect and he makes mistakes. He understands that he must know what perfect is in order to give someone the title. He knew that something perfect lead him to have these ideas and that it must exist. His definition of perfect is unique without the knowledge of anyone else and he defined it as God. For example, Descartes believes that God is perfect and deception is a sign of imperfection. Therefore, Descartes came to the conclusion that God cannot deceive. This example shows that Descartes did struggle to accept his own belief without doubting himself. His ontological argument proved, to Descartes, that through God everythingShow MoreRelatedSimilarities Between Pragmatism And R ationalism1547 Words   |  7 Pagesuninformative and incomplete are Pierce, James, Dewey, Rescher, and Davidson.
